SCHOOLHOUSE: Our first-grade students had the opportunity to learn a piece of local history, just steps away from their classroom! The Chenango Schoolhouse Museum is located on our property just outside CFE. Our students learned about artifacts and what it was like to live in early America. They had great questions and got to try some fun activities!

HAPPY RETIREMENT: Yesterday we bid farewell to one of our cafeteria staff, Mrs. Betty Gincerowski! Betty started her career with #ForkNation 36 years ago at the Charlotte Kenyon. Since then, her journey has led her to hold a plethora of positions though all of our school buildings. We will miss her dearly but wish her the very best in her retirement!
MATH COLLABORATIVE: Today CFE hosted another session with the Southern Tier Math Collaborative which is co-designed and co-facilitated by Dr. Lara Imm in partnership with the NYS Master Teacher Program, Southern Tier!

RISE AND SHINE: Thank you to Mrs. Malejs for leading our Rise and Shine assemblies this week. Mrs. Malejs talked to students about how they can help students who are bullied. She reminded them that they can speak up, ask others to help, and tell an adult. Congratulations to our shout outs this week!

STALKER SHOTS: Students in Mr. Rosko's Film Analysis class are discussing the horror trope of a 'stalker shot'.
Stalker Shot is when the camera reveals someone stalking another character without their knowledge. The character and the audience have no idea there's a stalker in the area, but only the audience will be aware of them once the camera reveals their presence.
Like Halloween (a classic) or The Strangers (a newer example).
So of course… the Films Analysis class should each have to create one of their own to prove to me they actually get it (along with a discussion of the rule of thirds and balance).

CF AT SPARK: Today our middle schoolers traveled to SUNY Broome for the Broome Tioga BOCES SPARK program! They learned firsthand from students and professionals about different career fields!
ENGINEERS WEEK: Community Day is back for Engineers Week at Binghamton University / Watson College! The event will be held at the Innovative Technologies Complex (85 Murray Hill Road in Vestal) on Saturday, Feb. 24.
There will be two sessions limited to 150 children each: 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. And this year, we have a brand-new high school track! Our high school track is limited to 15 students each: 9:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Student groups have more than two dozen super-fun, STEM-related activities planned, along with a panel of current students that will guide you through a day in the life of an engineering/computer science student. SALTWATER ECOSYSTEM: Mr. Edward's class recently established a saltwater ecosystem in the fish tank in his classroom. The tank currently holds a few different species of fish, snails, hermit crabs, and a starfish. Eventually, he wants the tank to be able to support coral growth This would allow his classes, especially the Environmental Science class, to study the coral reef ecosystem, something that many will never see in person due to our proximity from them in nature.
On Friday, the students in the Environmental Science class worked to take as many observations of the tank as they could, including number of different organisms, interactions between them, feeding habits, and how they behaved. These observations help them understand how everything in this ecosystem is connected. In addition, the students performed several tests of the water in the tank to check the parameters of the water. Many species of coral are very sensitive to changes in water conditions, and if the parameters aren’t just right, they cannot live. By performing these tests, the students are gaining an understanding of what it takes for a coral reef to thrive and what we need to do for our tank to help us get to those conditions. The results of their tests show that the tank is nearly ready to support coral growth.
