McKenna Cortright isn't your typical senior. She spends half of her day at Broome-Tioga BOCES as an Animal Sciences Student.
Recently, Cortright was able to take part in a competition hosted by Skills USA, which according to their website is a national non-profit partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. They serve middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations.
This year, Skills USA hosted part of their regional competition at SUNY Morrisville in which Cortright participated in the Customer Service section.
According to the senior, this was comprised of a written test, an interview, and a skills test, which can be used as a tiebreaker.
This year Cortright competed against 14 students in which she placed third.
She says she is proud of herself for being able to place this year, as this is her second year competing with Skills USA.
She adds that it felt pretty good to bring home a win.
Cortright will be attending SUNY Oswego in the fall to major in Zoology. She says that her experience with the Animal Science Program at Broome Tioga BOCES has helped prepare her for her future.
