Today students from the Chenango Forks Middle and High school competed in the 14th Annual Southern Tier Robotics Competition held at SUNY Broome Community College.
The competition challenged students to create custom built robots capable of completing various “real” life tasks facing “real” life robots! Students honed their mechanical engineering skills to create frames, drivetrains, and lifting mechanisms. Electrical engineering, coding, and computer science skills were integral to create the seamless interaction of sensors, microcontrollers, and electric motors.
Our students worked very hard on their robots, and it showed in their performance! Highlights include:
First-Place finish by Hayden Hills in the Large Swept Away
First-Place finish by Sam Scofield in King of the Ring
Second-Place finish by Amir Brown and Nate Schieve in Small Swept Away
As a district, Chenango Forks placed Second in the overall team standings! Congratulations to all of our student participants and to Mr. Ramsden and Mr. Niemiec for guiding our future engineers!

Former Health Club student and CFHS 10th grade student Anna Nottingham was recently invited to present to the current CFMS Health Club students about her business, Anna Banana’s Sweet Treats!
Anna told the students about how she got started in baking and how her business has become successful. She also did a demonstration on how to use Royal Icing when making her beautiful cookies. Students then had a chance to make their own cookie to take home and enjoy!

Yesterday, our middle school agriculture class had an amazing opportunity to visit Binghamton University and learn from students in the Bees and Maple Production class!
Our students learned about the biology of maple trees, the history of maple production, new technologies in syrup-making and about products that can be made from syrup. Our students even had the chance to make and taste their own maple ice cream!
A huge thank you to Binghamton University for this great hands-on learning experience for our CFMS students!

Mrs. Hantsch's Middle School Agriculture class had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs. Aukema and Ms. Peila for a special lesson on dog breeding and showing! This hands-on experience was a fun and engaging way for students to review genetics as they gear up for the state science test. It also introduced students to careers in animal care.
The best part of the visit was getting to play with adorable puppies!

Mrs. Shoudy's sixth grade Family & Consumer Sciences class had the opportunity to bake for the superintendents meeting that was hosted yesterday in the middle school library. They just finished their measuring unit and got to practice their measuring skills by baking home-made brownies. They had the chance to present the dessert to the group of superintendents, which was one student's idea!
The students were very proud of their work, and everyone enjoyed the delicious treat!
