This week, our 7th-grade life science students had the privilege of learning from Dr. Pat Faughnan, who graciously shared his expertise with them. Dr. Faughnan, a local resident and graduate of UE High School, cultivated his passion for STEM during his high school years. Following his research on metastatic breast cancer at the University of Virginia-Charlottesville, he embarked on a career as a process scientist at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals in Albany.
During his visit, Dr. Faughnan provided insights into his role at Regeneron, detailing how he contributes to the development of medicines and enhances product quality. His engaging discussion not only deepened the students' understanding of science but also inspired them to nurture their own scientific interests during middle school. Dr. Faughnan highlighted the potential for translating this passion into a rewarding career, emphasizing its significance in propelling our society forward in the realm of STEM advancements.
