Happy New Year! As we move into 2025, the district is excited to welcome students back for what is sure to be a very busy January. At the end of this month, we will be finishing up our first semester of the school year. This is an opportune time to gauge academic success and set goals for the second half of the year.
Although classes were not in session the past few weeks, the district has still been busy. Construction has continued in our high school, and it would be hard to miss the new walls and roof of what will be our new aquatics area. We are also excited to announce that our new locker rooms and team rooms are nearly complete and should be ready for students to use in the next few weeks. Also, coming in the near future, the district LED signs will be replaced and updated with new technology. As a reminder, you can always check our website for construction updates and see pictures of our progress and renderings of what is to come by clicking on our Capital Project section in the menu.
A few reminders for the district:
Lunar New Year Jan. 29- New York State Governor Kathy Hochul signed legislation designating the Lunar New Year as a school holiday in September 2023. This date just so happened to be a Saturday in 2024. This year's Lunar New Year falls on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, and New York State schools will not be in session.
March Superintendent’s Day Clarification- Please be aware for planning purposes, that our March Superintendent’s Conference Day will be Friday, March 14. The district calendars mailed home have indicated that it would be March 7, but this is not the case.
January is also the month when the entire district focuses on the habit of “Putting First Things First.” The new year is a great time to revisit our main goals or “Big Rocks,” and take a moment to plan to set time aside to focus on these things each day. Taking ten minutes at the beginning of each day to put first things first is a proven strategy to not only be more productive but also to relieve stress and increase our feeling of accomplishment!
I hope everyone in Forks Nation has a great 2025!
Sincerely,
Tom Burkhardt, Superintendent
