Mrs. Johnson's Class

To celebrate the recent holiday, Earth Day, Mrs. Johnson's class made an effort to clean up the flower beds located behind the elementary school.

Students brought in gardening gloves and other forms of protection to help in their project. They cleared a plethora of weeds, dead leaves, and other organic matter that was obstructing their ability to plant.

Mrs. Johnson said the goal of the clean-up effort is to plant new items that attract butterflies. She discussed with her class the endangerment of the species including habitat loss, climate change, disease, pesticides, and invasive plants.

Her class is looking forward to providing a safe environment for butterflies to stop in at during their journeys. They are also hoping to witness the full life cycle of a butterfly as well.

The class is currently seeking donations of small plants that people may not want at their houses anymore. Attached below is a link to a list of plants that are safe and attract monarchs:
