Common Core Standards
New York is part of the federal Race to the Top program. Part of this program requires that the state adopt the common core standards. Currently, these exist for Math and English Language Arts and aim to provide our students with a rigorous curriculum designed to make them college and career ready when they graduate from high school. The links below are pdf documents showing the progression from pre-k through 12th grade.
NYS Core Curriculum
Below are links to New York State's standards for science and social studies. Currently, national standards are in development, but your child will be required to know these things by the end of fourth grade.
Homework
Homework is given 4-5 nights a week. If your child has difficulty with the homework, please write a note on it and I will be happy to sit with him or her individually to work on it the following day. If your child's homework is not completed or attempted, he or she will stay inside during recess to work on it.
Each child will be given an agenda on the first day of school. A student helper will check that homework is written down and agendas were initialed by a parent each night. I often remind students to show me their agenda if there is a note from a parent inside.
Friday Folders are sent home each week. Please look through these with your child and initial in the agenda that you've seen the work. Folders need to be returned Monday mornings.
