Tips for Students and Parents

Tips for Success in Social Studies 7:

  • Stay focused. Try to eliminate distractions before you walk in to the classroom and come in ready to work.

  • Be an active participant in class! The more you are engaged in our activities and classwork, the better understanding you should have of the material.

  • Ask questions. If you do not understand something, please ask during class by raising your hand or asking me in private before or after class. I am here to help you!

  • Make use of study guides, notes, and class activities for review prior to quizzes and exams. If you study in an appropriate manner, you should do well on tests.

For Parents...

  • Stay in contact! My goal is to create the best learning environment for your child, and open lines of communication will facilitate that.

  • Ask your student what we have been studying in social studies class. This will provide for reinforcement and will allow students to discuss concepts and topics in their own words.

  • Double check your child's organization and daily agenda. Some middle school students need extra assistance to become more organized.

  • Get someone at home to study with your child. A study partner, especially in a social studies class full of facts and information, can be useful for a student as an interactive review tool.
