PSAT/NMQT

PSAT/NMQT-(PRELIMINARY SCHOLASTIC APTITUDE TEST/NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP QUALIFYING TEST)
Test Date: October of each year! 


This test is required for all students who wish to be considered for a National Merit Scholarship. A high-test score is required to become a semifinalist. This is also the test African American students must take to compete for scholarships from the National Achievement Program for Outstanding African American Students. The PSAT/in most is a multiple-choice test that measures verbal and mathematical reasoning ability important for success in college. It is recommended that this test be taken in the junior year. This test is not required for college admission. Registration is done by the student in the guidance office.

Chenango Forks STEAM Academy

 The Chenango Forks STEAM Academy was designed to create a variety of internship and job shadowing opportunities for Chenango Forks High School students in local businesses and industries to train students in entry-level positions in preparation for full time employment after H.S.  If you are interested in taking advantage of this internship opportunity in your senior year, or are interested in shadowing see Mrs. Quaranta, Workplace Coordinator.

Leadership Opportunities for Juniors

RYLA YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE  

The conference is sponsored locally by the Rotary Club of Nimmonsburg.   RYLA is a nationally know leadership program sponsored by Rotary International which provides an intensive training program for community you leaders. The leadership program emphasized fundamentals of leadership, communication skills, personality qualities, and problem solving as well as confidence building a community building. LEGION

American Legion Boys State

 Boys State is a week-long program that immerses high school youth (currently completing their junior year) in citizenship and leadership training. They learn the practical aspects of government as it exists in New York State and come to recognize that the individual is integral to the character and success of government. They also participate in physical fitness, teamwork and other activities, under the guidance of American Legion counselors and U.S. Marines. Boys State will be held from June 25 to July 1, 2017 at SUNY Morrisville State College in Morrisville, NY.  See the Boys State Website here!

American Legion Girls State

Empire Girls State is a hands-on week-long educational workshop, focusing on Americanism and the political process, sponsored by the New York State American Legion Auxiliary. The goal of the program is to help students to better understand democratic ideals and the part we as individuals play in carrying out these ideals. This program, which has been accredited by the National College Credit Recommendation Service (National CCRS) is a non-partisan attempt to teach high school junior girls about government, politics, and Americanism.

Students Inside Albany Conference

Each year the regional League of Women Voters of Broome and Tioga Counties sponsors students' attendance at the inside Albany conference. The conference takes place in the late winter of each year and is designed to increase students’ awareness of their responsibility in representative government and to provide the tools necessary for meeting that responsibility. Students will tour the Capitol and observe both the Senate and Assembly in action by spending an afternoon shadowing their legislator. All their expenses are covered, including travel and three nights in Albany.  Students inside Albany conference Website.
